Seitan Philly Cheese Steak
The Philly Cheesesteak is a classic and for some people a childhood favorite.
We turned something traditional and put a Vegan Gents twist on it. We took Seitan, an ancient recipe, put it with an American classic and made a flavorful, delicious lunch dish for everyone to enjoy.
Ingredients
-
4-5 Strips of The Vegan Gents Seitan (Follow "How To Make Seitan with The Vegan Gents" recipe before you get started or use store-bought seitan)
-
Roasted green pepper cut into 1/4 " strips
-
1/2 Red Sweet onion cut into 1/4 " strips
-
1/2 Cup of shredded vegan mozzarella cheese (optional)
-
1 teaspoon of olive oil
-
1 tsp. of sea salt
-
1/2 tsp. of dried oregano
-
A pinch of red pepper flakes
-
1 tsp. garlic powder
Instructions
-
First, Take all your spices and mix them together in a small bowl, you will use the mixture to sporadically sprinkle on top of all the dish whilst in the pan
-
In a hot skillet or fry pan, add a teaspoon olive oil and then add the onions. Let them sauté until they soften and become translucent
-
After 1-2 minutes turn the skillet to medium-low
-
Add the seitan strips and sprinkle a pinch of the seasoning mixture and sauté the strips with the onions
-
Add the roasted green peppers and sprinkle the seasoning mixture again. Let the strips, onions and the peppers brown and come to a light crisp. Sprinkle with more seasonings
-
Next, (now you have to do this fast!) Add the vegan cheese & sauté the mixture in the skillet remembering not to allow the cheese to burn in the skillet
-
After the cheese is melted, quickly move everything to your preferred bread. I like to use the focaccia bread. (which is featured on baked goods section)
